Vinegar can be regarded as one of multipurpose solution beside Baking Soda. It acidic property can help you in a number of ways especially in handling house cleaning.
What is vinegar?
Vinegar is a solution with acidic properties usually produced by fermentation of ethanol or sugars by acetic acid bacteria.
Properties and composition of Vinegar
Vinegar has the chemical composition of CH3COOH.
Vinegar also has acidic properties at pH Value 2.4.
Since vinegar is acidic it can be used for a several of purposes. As you have known, acids are corrosive, but vinegar is not that too corrosive to harm human skin. (At least for kitchen-use vinegar, usually fruits vinegar). If you are wondering, several examples of its uses are:
Clogged Kitchen Drain (Vinegar and Baking Soda, Warm Water)
Well, we start off with the dynamic duo. Vinegar and its couple Baking Soda. Should you find your kitchen sink is clogged, just use these two items to help you unclog it.
- Pour boiling water down the drain.
- Put some baking soda about 2-3 spoon.
- Pour a glass of mixture of glass and vinegar.
- You should see bubbles might be forming.
- Flush with a glass of boiling water.
Sticky residue from wall sticker
Here’s the situation, you have old sticker on your house wall. You removed it and you found out that some sticky residue on the wall. Well, that’s a “sticky-situation”. What you can do to help you to remove the residue easier is spray some vinegar onto the residue and let it absorb for a few minutes. Take some paper cloth and wipe that residue clean from your wall.
Smelly trashcan (soak bread in vinegar)
Sometime, when you have discarded your trash, there are still some smelly odor left. By using vinegar, you can try to remove or at least reduce the smelly odor. Here’s how. Soak a slice of bread in a bowl of vinegar. Put the soaked slice of bread into the trash bin and leave it there for 1 night.
Make your own cleaning agent (1/3 vinegar, 2/3 water, some soap)
You are out of cleaning soaps or sprays? Well worry not, as you can make a cleaning agent solution yourself by using vinegar. Just take a spray bottle and fill 1/3 of the spray bottle with vinegar and fill up with water. You can also put some dishwashing soap (maybe 2 caps of soap) to make it smell nice.
Clean glass by spraying vinegar
Did you know that you can also use vinegar to wipe glass. Use vinegar to remove streaks on glass. One of the reasons of using vinegar is that it also can dissolve sticky films on the glass.
